Club Brugge reels in the trophies at the Pro League Awards

Jupiler Pro League

In what has turned out to be a very productive edition of this season's Pro League Awards, Club Brugge has added some more sparkle to an already trophy-filled year, courtesy of some fine performances in the Jupiler Pro League. A special word of praise came for goalkeeper Simon Mignolet who was given a suited farewell to the world of active Belgian football.

Several Club players manned the stage during an award show seeing Christos Tzolis chosen as Jupiler Pro League Player of the Season, in recognition of an incredible season for the Greek, proving decisive on 40 occasions in 36 league games, scoring 17 and setting a teammate up 23 times. This also made him the Assist king of the season, with 13 assists in the regular league phase, and ten in the Champions’ Play‑Offs.

Our skipper, Hans Vanaken, was also called to the stage. His powerful blast against Union Saint‑Gilloise just a couple of weeks ago, scoring the opener in the 30th minute of the game after an assist by, who would have thought, Tzolis, earned him the bwin.tv Goal of the Season award.

More silverware came for Nieuwsblad Talent of the SeasonAleksandar Stanković. In his first season at Club, the young defensive midfielder proved decisive eight times, netting 6 and also handing out 2 assists in 39 appearances.

Finally, Nicolò Tresoldi won the Pro Scorer award having scored 19: 13 in the league phase and 6 in the Champions’ Play‑Offs.

An emotional chord was struck as Simon Mignolet was given one last time in the spotlights. Our goalkeeper, who started out at STVV before joining Sunderland and later on Liverpool, bade farewell to Belgian football, and received a resounding round of applause from everyone in the room for his impressive career.
