Club YLA grabs the three points in Genk

Lotto Super League

Club YLA recorded a hard-fought victory at the KRC Genk Ladies field on Saturday. In an intense match, Club YLA drew the longest straw in the closing stages and deservedly took the three points back to Bruges: 1-2.

The match started evenly, with Club taking most of the initiative. Blauw-Zwart pressed, but had to remain patient against a well-organized home team. After half an hour, the deserved opening goal was scored. Lisa Petry was sent deep and coolly slid the ball past the Genk goalkeeper: 0-1.

Just before half-time, however, Genk came alongside. From a quick counter the home team finished efficiently and so both teams went into the locker rooms with a 1-1 draw. In injury time of the first half, Elferink also kept Club straight with a fine save in a one-on-one situation.

Even after the break, the game remained exciting and intense. Club YLA defended tightly and tried razor-sharp turnovers. Both teams went in search of the winning goal, but again it was Elferink who distinguished himself with a clever save on a Genk cannon shot.

The decision came in minute 87. After a corner, the ball landed at the feet of Littel, who did not hesitate and kicked powerfully in: 1-2. Club played the game out maturely and kept the lead.
