Wijnimport Van Hende undoubtedly rings a bell with numerous Blauw-Zwarte business customers. Not surprisingly, because as the official wine supplier of Club Brugge, Van Hende invariably serves all the top wines and champagne in the various restaurants at Jan Breydel, including two absolute tastemakers: Champagne Lanson 'Le Black Label' and La Fleur de Badette.
However, the success of Wijnimport Van Hende did not come overnight. The family business began shortly after World War II with a wine store in which its own liqueurs were distilled. Since then, Wijnimport Van Hende has grown into a leading importer of quality wines from around the world, including reputed millésimes.
BELGIAN TASTEMAKERS ABROAD
Despite their international allure, Wijnimport Van Hende does not always look far from home. For example, two of its best-selling West Flemish-made wines, Château Badette and La Fleur de Badette, were grown and bottled in Saint-Emilion by the West Flemish Vandenbogaerde family. "Successful Belgian winemakers abroad always score very well. People like to have a story or face with the wine," says Gilles Van Hende, business manager at Wijnimport Van Hende.
Not only the story behind the wine is remarkable, but also the quality, as the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru of the Vandenbogaerde family has been promoted to Grand Cru Classé in a very short time, a title reserved for only the very best wines.
