Last weekend the Club Brugge G-tournament took place on the fields of Jan Breydel. At the tournament we welcomed more than 300 enthusiastic G-football players who could enjoy a full day of their favorite and most beautiful team sport. 25 teams came down to Bruges to enjoy a wonderful day together with their teams, coaches, parents and family members. The tournament is not a typical tournament with a classic winner, but rather a real family event where everyone is welcome. You immediately notice the pride of the players when they can ask their families to support them.
WINNERS AND CHAMPIONS AT THE G-TOURNAMENT
Within the spirit of G soccer, the result of the matches was of the least importance. Fairplay, enjoyment of the game and an atmospheric day were paramount. Based on the level of play of the G-soccer players, the teams were divided into pools. This way everyone could enjoy the game equally. There was no need to keep track of rankings, because each team went home with a cup, a nice goodie bag and as a true winner.
"For our players, the most important aspect is that they can and may participate in a tournament. Like many other boys and girls, they love soccer, but because of their limitations they cannot join a regular soccer team. As players of Club Brugge's G-team, they feel part of the big blue-black family. With us, everyone is a winner." said G-team trainer Dirk.
SPECIAL GUEST: MATS RITS
For the 300 or so participants in the tournament, a nice surprise was planned at the end of the day. None other than Mats Rits came in person to encourage the teams in their final matches. Afterwards, he had fun taking a picture with them (and the champions cup) and gave each team their deserved cup. Thanks Mats for being there and giving our teams a day they will never forget.
SPORT FLANDERS
Of course, organizing a tournament is not possible without the help and support of our partners. Thank you to Sport Vlaanderen for supporting our G-soccer players time after time and also this time helping to promote our tournament. Because sport makes us better. Active sports make us physically and mentally healthier. But passively enjoying sport also does a lot of good to us. Sport brings out the best in people. Athletes experience more!
EUROPEAN FOOTBALL WEEK 2022
The Club Brugge G-tournament coincides with the European Football Week. A week that is already taking place for the 22nd time. This year, UEFA is calling on national soccer associations and soccer clubs to get behind European Football Week (EFW) by promoting the campaign online. By doing so, they aim to create a safe environment - on and off the field - for children and young people in Europe. Given the challenging context of the past two years, the focus includes getting children and young people with intellectual disabilities back on the field safely.
