Maxim De Cuyper: “Needed this win”
Second derby of the season, second win for Club. Club's second half was lower-grade, but this didn't dampen Maxim De Cuyper's spirits.
“We needed this win”, Club's left winger started out. “Also because we wanted to show it's not only in the Champions League that we can play well, but also in the league. I was happy to see we were almost sure of that win after the first half with that 0-3 intermediate score. Despite being forewarned at half time, Cercle still managed that 1-3, and that's sad. I think it was Diakité firing at goal after corner nr x, and it goes through some legs in goal. An unfortunate moment for us, but after that we didn't give away that many chances.”
Simon Mignolet: "Clinical and efficient"
"We needed to win and secure the three points in the Bruges derby. We played out those counters well in the first half, but we were a bit more clumsy after that. It's so important to be grabbing those points, particularly as there are only two games left before the play-offs. It was a bit like we did against Atalanta, very clinical and efficient. Cercle played an all-or-nothing game in the second half, keeping us from a lot of possession. It was only by the end of the game that we regained control, and maybe we should have added more goals.
We play so many games, it's important to keep everyone fit. Suspensions and yellow cards allow us rotate and make some second half substitutions. We will have to take this efficiency to the game at Villa Park next week. Those who scored today, will take a good feeling with them. We need to make the most of our chances, and who knows what can happen still."
