Reactions after RB Salzburg - Club

UEFA Champions League

Nicky Hayen: "Happy to see us being clinical"

Blauw-Zwart won with the smallest of margins the first leg as it heads towards next week's return at home against Red Bull Salszburg. Coach Nicky Hayen was pleased with the result. "What pleases me the most was seeing us clinical", he said. "Defensively we were well-organized and didn't give away too many chances as we also tried to create them. The lack of depth in our game is something we need to work on. But as I said before, that's something we know and have to deal with right now as we don't have all players fit just yet. In the end this 0-1 win is a good result, because we had some doubts after last Friday's performance. All in all, we performed quite well today."

Romeo Vermant: "Finish it off next week"

"This was a match that lacked many clear-cut chances at both ends. And when you get one, it's up to you to try and score. In the first half the goalkeeper got his hands to it, but I'm happy that I could seal it in the second half. Now we have to finish it next week at home, but it will not be an easy task. Salszburg is difficult to compete with when it comes to their intensity of play, but we hold the best cards right now, so we just have to play like we are used to."

Hans Vanaken: "Happy with the result and the performance"

"We knew beforehand that this would be a very physical game. I think we took a little too many risks in the second half, allowing them to create some chances. When we play more carefully, you see that you also create chances to score. Because this is a two leg encounter it wouldn't have been wise to play very attacking right from the start, so that's something we did well. It's a good feeling to go home with a 1-0 advantage. We're happy with that result and with our performance, but we're definitely aware that we can still improve. This tie is not over yet, Salzburg has its qualities and we will need to be cautious next week."
