Ronny Deila: "We put in a top performance today"

Jupiler Pro League

Coach Deila was a happy man after his team's performance and 0-5 win.

"Obviously I am very happy. I think we've put in a top performance today by carrying out the basics as we had planned and keeping the pressure high on the opponent. This way we were able to win back the ball quickly. The first goal was important, especially because it was early on in the game, which allowed us more space as Eupen tried to level things up. Throughout the game we were very disciplined and well-organized. We played with more confidence on the ball as the game progressed. We could have scored more, but five goals is plenty. Last season we dropped the three points here, so this says something about today's performance."

Zinckernagel was in the starting line-up for the first time and immediately scored a double. "He was top today. I know he's a quality player and he gets better surrounded by other quality players. You could see that already today, the way he links up with Andreas (Skov Olsen), Hans (Vanaken) and Thiago. The team adjusted well and the subs had an impact as well. Just wonderful."

It looks like Deila has found his core group already. "I think consistency is important and therefore I'm not planning to make a lot of changes week after week. It's important to give confidence to the starters and to improve the coherence between the players. Naturally I will make a few changes for Thursday's game. Everyone is trying to get in the line-up and that's something I see everyday on the training ground. Nusa, for example, was great on Thursday, but Philip (Zinckernagel) also did great today."

It seems things are going well now at Club. "I know how fast things can go in football. Now we played some matches where everyone expected us to win them. Of course, that always puts pressure on the club and it's not always obvious to live up to that. As a top club, we have to be able to cope with being favourites. We have dealt with that very well in recent games. There are obviously bigger matches to come and then we will have new answers. We will also learn a lot from these matches, both positive and negative, and that is how we can grow. Everyone at the club wants to get better and better, and I think that is perhaps the most important thing. But in a top club like Club Brugge, in the end all that matters are the results."

In conclusion, the imminent transfer of Rits was also briefly discussed. "I do regret it, because he is a top guy and a good player and he has had a fantastic career in Bruges. Besides, I do understand that he is thinking about his future and that he can sign a long-term deal at Anderlecht. However, it is also a difficult situation for him, but he is dealing with it maturely. He has values and he feels this is the right choice for him, so then this is the right thing to do for him," the coach concluded after the big win against Eupen.
